Well Bootcampers we made it!  This is the 200th Episode! We had the opportunity to turn over the mic to one of our Replanter friends, Evan Skelton. He asked some great questions about our podcast, what we’ve learned and where things are heading in the future. We also get to hear from some of the friends of the Podcast along the way.  This EP is a bit longer than usual, but there’s some real gold in the conversation and comments.

We’re grateful for your listening ear, thanks for giving us the opportunity encourage you in your work of renewal at the local church.

A special thanks to our great sponsor who makes this all possible, One Eighty Digital. Let them know you are a bootcamp listener and get their help with your website, branding and social media needs.

Stay tuned, EP 201 is on the way.

The Bootcamp boys continue the ATL Bootcamp series and are joined by none other than Pilot Mountain’s own, Walker Armstrong. Walker serves as the AMS Leader for the Pilot Mountain Association and is one of the leaders who helped create the Replant Practitioner Training. Listen in as they discuss what it takes to be healthy as a Pastor serving in a local church.

Staying Healthy is challenging when:

  • Pastors/Leaders become isolated and alone
  • When they persist in the hard work of ministry without any breaks
  • When they don’t have a coach, mentor or friend
  • When they ignore their own health (physical, spiritual, financial etc.)

What can be done to address pastor health?

  • Develop a regular practice of “check-ups” and “Check-in’s”
  • Join a pastors cohort group-where proactive care and focus are given to members
  • Develop a list of conversational questions aimed at discussing the issues of life, ministry and spiritual growth

Great quote from the episode: “You are only as sick as your secrets.”

Guys, don’t Pastor alone, connect with other Pastors. your Associational Leader or check in with us here at the Bootcamp. Drop us a line, send an email reach out today.

Pilot Mountain Associational  Missional Strategist Walker Armstrong stopped by the bootcamp when we were in ATL for the Replant Practitioner Lab.  Here are some of the highlights.

There are a lot of characters in dying churches.

Humor is a great way to not make a big deal about something — but also to address difficulty.

Humor, well used can bring back hope.

If you’re going to see a movement in Replanting — you got to have an Assessment process.

Things to note when working with a congregation that needs to be Replanted

-Don’t be in a hurry

-Compromise where you can

-Serve the congregation and invest in them

-There is value of having an outside voice, someone who cares and can help them see the truth.

The Value of Associations for struggling churches and Replanters

-Partnership with NAMB and the training for Associational leaders

-Networking among churches and pastors

What are the inherent challenges as an Associational Leader in working with struggling churches?

-They have money in the bank and can meet together indefinitely while living off of those resources

-They are not living on mission or impacting the community

-Denial

Q:What one piece of advice would you share with a Replanter/Pastor?

A: How is your soul?  We minister out of our relationship with the Lord-we can have a lot of talent but if we are not spiritually connected to Jesus then we will crash.

Psalm 127:7 “He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.”
