EPISODE #73 - ENGAGE YOUR COMMUNITY

Don’t let 2021 overwhelm you, stay with the basics, the irreducible minimums of ministry and take joy in leading your congregation and loving your people.  The guys are back at it, discussing how you can excel at Engaging the Community.  (also Jimbo shares a pretty incredible story right up front)

Personal

  • To engage the community you have to love the community – to grow in your love for the community you have to be in the community
  • Get involved and go to the civic events, parades, sports events etc
  • Go to the coffee shops, diners, firehouses, feed stores-get out and be a part of the community

Interpersonal

  • Get to know the people right around your church.
  • Engage your neighborhood, invite people over for time around the firepit
  • Throw a neighborhood party
  • Set up in a coffee shop-put out a sign letting people know you are willing to pray for them.

Team

  • Engage the community together as a small group or church
  • Trunk or Treat at the Elementary School
  • Serve a youth sports team

Organizationally

  • Serve in the community as a church-get out and serve on others turf not your own
  • Cast a strong vision for your church members to engage in whatever arena they are active in
  • Serve a like minded organization
  • Serve with your city by engaging with the city leaders.

EPISODE #72 - MAKE DISCIPLES
Loading
/

We’re back! Discussing the irreducible minimums of ministry that we can focus on as we shepherd and lead the church during this season. Our topic today-making disciples. We have been using the PITO Air Force Leadership model as a framework. Jump in and give it a listen. Have questions, feedback? We would love to hear from you, drop us a comment, email or text.

The mission according to Mark Clifton: “make disciples who make disciples who make the community a noticeably better place.

Personally

  • You have to be a disciple yourself
  • Engage in personal spiritual practices on your own
  • Prayer by Tim Keller has a great description of our soul and a boat.

Interpersonally

  • Who are your 2-3 who discipling yourself?
  • A disciple is someone who is a little further down the road than another person in their walk with Christ.
  • Discipling another person/s is a non-negotiable for us as a Pastor.

Team

  • Disciple your team as “lead disciplers” this is both in content and practice
  • Challenge/Require every team member to be a discipler of others
  • Prioritize discipling over “ministering” or doing administrative tasks.

Organizationally

  • Your church needs a Discipleship Pathway-how will you strategically lead someone to Jesus and help them grow in Jesus?
  • Just attending church and going to small group/sunday school isn’t discipleship
  • Encourage discipleship through your preaching and teaching regularly

EPISODE #71 - EQUIP LEADERS

Bob gets honest about his disdain for Tom Brady, Jimbo has a Chiefs fan in the house and we get down to discussing why equipping your people for ministry is not only a central part of your calling but a joy.  Check out the highlights below and consult the show notes for details.

The PITO lens: Personal, Interpersonal, Team, Organizational

Don’t fall into the trap of doing ministry just because you are a single staff leader. We are called to equip the saints for the work of ministry.

Personally

  • evaluate your motives
  • check your definitions of success

Interpersonally

  • make disciples-identify spiritual giftings and calling
  • Discipleship and serving are for everyone, leadership is for a few

Team

  • involve other leaders in helping you equip others in the church
  • don’t be the “lid” by limiting equipping to yourself

Organizationally

  • have an intentional strategy, process and plan
  • think broader than your context and your church, develop kingdom leaders

EPISODE #70 - Preach the Word

In this episode Bob details his Popeye’s Chicken Sandwich experience and Jimbo and his kids went to Wendy’s to throw down on their claim that they’ve ended the Chicken Sandwich wars. Then the boys get around to addressing the six irreducible minimums once again, this time they discuss what it means to Preach the Word by examining it through the lens of PITO.

  • Personal – Preach the Word to yourself: as in Observation – Interpretation – Application.
  • Interpersonally – Preach the Word to your spouse, children with gentleness.
  • Team – Don’t use the Bible as a weapon to harm your team – but to edify your team.
  • Organizationally – Lead your church to be centered on God’s Word. Maybe sermon-based small groups. Teach your church HOW to study God’s Word.

Also, preach through books of the Bible. There are a lot of benefits to preaching expository sermons through a book of the Bible.

EPISODE #69 - Leading Self, Others and Team in Pursuing The Kingdom of God

Bob and Jimbo spend time breaking down one of the 6 Irreducible minimums, Pursuing the Kingdom of God via the PITO Leadership model from the Officer Development School of the US Air Force. Yeah, we know it sounds kinda well…..just give it a listen, we promise you’ll laugh and be informed.

Personally: spiritual practices that bring about the rule and reign of God in your life.

Interpersonally: making disciples in the context of relationships in everyday life.

Team: consider those with whom you led ministry, are they growing spiritually and are we functioning as the body of Christ? Are we surrendering our agenda to the Lord’s agenda?

Organizationally: are we as a church pursuing Kingdom principles and priorities rather than simply just doing the same old same.

EPISODE #68 - HOW COVID CHANGED THE INTERNET FOR CHURCHES

Happy New Year from the boot camp boys! We hope it’s off to a great start for you and your church. In today’s episode Wesley Lewis, owner and creative director of OneEighty.digital (our exclusive, illustrious and awesome podcast sponsor) stops by to explain how COVID19 has changed the internet.  And….you’ll also learn a couple things about the boot camp bros…

  • Bob discloses his favorite TV show is Home Town
  • Jimbo Admits his dream job would be hosting  a show like “Triple D”

Now, to the important topic: How Covid Changed the Internet.

  • Just about everyone-we mean everyone is streaming their worship services
  • There has been a 20-30% increase in web traffic
  • The web is the front door of the Church
  • Desktop and Devices (smart TV) are growing in usage over mobile devices
  • Getting information out quickly is imperative
  • You can’t rely on one platform (email, text, facebook, webpage)
  • Your webpage has to updated every week-you can’t replace with social media
  • Interaction is key-you must have a response form or direct your audience

What are the current website trends?

  • A shift to function over form-finding info, navigation has to be EASY.
  • Embedding your livestream b/c many people don’t have social media.
  • Online Giving, Contact forms and calls to action

With everyone online a lot of people are struggling with screen fatigue, how can we address that?

  • Extend the time of interaction before and after your livestream
  • Offer ways to interact personally (analog via calls, texts etc)
  • Provide questions, downloadable resources for your audience.

EPISODE #64 - COVID CHRISTMAS OUTREACH
Loading
/

Don’t let COVID crash your Christmas plans! Today the guys break down some ways they are considering busting through the COVID19 Blues and making the best of what can be done for outreach at Christmas time. Check this one out for some hope, help and encouragement and of course a few laughs!

How can you make the best of the Covid regulations?

  • Take your context into account-do what you can do, don’t get depressed by what others can do
  • Get creative – but know your limitations
  • Do something rather than doing nothing
  • Consider singing/caroling for those who are homebound
  • You might try a Christmas “Adam” service (the day before Christmas Eve)

But what if you can’t do anything at all? Like no public gathering, no public events etc.

  • Make phone calls to people who are part of your church family
  • Write notes-hand written cards mean a lot. Check out the felt app
  • Consider helping or serving at shelters

You might just have to dust off something that seems like it won’t work, something from the past. We encourage you to try something.  Take your five loaves and two fish and give it to God and see what he will make of it.
